Human Version 2.0

My newest build is one that I've been meaning to do for sometime.  The Cybermen where always my Dads favorite of the Doctors foes and as such I think were probably the first of the Doctors enemies that I ever saw on TV.  Unlike the Daleks the Cybermen had more of a human feel to them making them, in my opinion more scary.  I mean the chances of us needing pepper pot shaped armor in the future over that of Cybernetic parts is somewhat remote, but looking at today's robotics and prosthetic limbs I fear that Cybus industries is closer than we think.  I saw an article on the news a few weeks ago about a company that has invented robot legs for veterans who had lost the ability to walk... Here's the report:  Biologically accurate robot walking legs

Back to the build...

I manged to source various parts from all over the place but still have a few things to try and find, however I do have enough at least for now to get started.

So here's where I am right now with my Cyberman Helmet, ultimately I want to really put the entire costume together, as you've probably already guessed from following my blog I like the weathered/beaten up look so no doubt this will be another of my collection that will get some battle scars.  Plus I've always prefered the more classic (80's) version Cybermen to that of the new series.

I would also LOVE to see them face off one time, being that the new Cybermen are actually alternate Universe versions, we could see it happen... who knows.

Week One

You can see there is still a lot of sanding to be done, particularly around the eyes and the mouth, but once that's done Ill be able to add the mouth piece as well as mesh behind the eyes.

Also, unlike the original the right angle of the 'handles' is done using a copper pipe 90 degree fixture, the originals where pretty much all one piece, however I have seen some others done in this manner and I don't feel personally that it will effect the overall look that I am going for.

For the most part the helmet is made out of fiberglass, the 'handles' are simply PVC pipe. Other parts are made from resin.

More updates as I make progress.....

Egg-sterminate... Happy Easter!

Last Easter I decided to attempt a very simple Dalek egg, using oven bake clay for the appendages I picked out one of the eggs my daughter had dyed and began converting it....

Very simply drawing the details on with Sharpie then gluing the attachment...

This year I decided to attempt a very simple Cyberman egg, it took maybe 15-20mins to actually do everything and being so simple pretty much anyone can do it.

Much like the Dalek I made the additions out of oven bake clay, molding them to the egg to give a good fit.

Baked the clay for 15mins - 225°F

While the clay was baking I sprayed the egg silver

Once the clay had cooled I simply glued them to the egg then sprayed again with the silver

With a Sharpie I drew on the simple face details

Done

Like I said, its a very simple version. I could add more maybe some blue about the mouth maybe even using the oven bake clay sculpt the face but all in all you know what it is and that's what I was aiming for...

With that, I wish you all a fantastic and safe Easter.

What has season 7 of Doctor Who got in store for us?

It looks like the Doctor is getting a little creative, I just found out about a new line of toys from Character that'll be coming out later this year.  Apparently there was quite the Doctor Who collection at the London toy fair this year. I did managed to get hold of some photos, which I think  could also be quite a good clue as far as whats to come in season 7.

The first is called the Dalek/Cyberman Anti Time device which looks to be a combination of canibalised Dalek and Cyberman parts:

In addition to this pretty neat looking contraption there's also a 'Personal TARDIS', what happens to the TARDIS??

Now this looks like something that's worn on the wrist, much like Captain Jacks Vortex Manipulator, but seeing as River used in 'Big Bang 2' there's got to be more to it. Something I particularly like is just how Steampunk'd everything is.

Lastly I want to show you the new Trans Temporal Sonic Screwdriver...

with all these new toys giving us some sort of hint as to whats going to happen there seems to me that something is going to happen to the TARDIS maybe it breaks down, gets lost or even stolen.  I'm also guessing that we will be seeing the Daleks and the Cybermen based on the Anti Time Device. Also note the the Dalek eye is from the older style Daleks and not the newer style...

What ever is going to happen its gonna force the Doctor to come up with some new gadget...

Who knows?  All I can say is its gonna be interesting and fun to find out

Paper Cybermen 'Cubies'

I've not written in nearly a week because I've been working on my Cyberman helmet, collecting reference photos, talking to people and researching the various styles stc.

While collecting photos and such I came across a bunch of images called 'Cubies' and thought it would perhaps be fun to share these with everyone:

Custom damaged Cyberman helmet

Why on Earth would you purposefully damage a Cyberman helmet? I guess you wouldn't or shouldn't that is unless your attempting to replicate the damaged Cyberman helmet from the episode The Pandorica Opens, the Cyberman was a guard that had suffered some severe damage...

Page from Doctor Who annual 2010
So armed with an image from a copy of the Doctor Who annual, I set about making my own version first thing however I had to reverse it, the bars on the side of the head on voice changing helmet had some of the electronics so I used a little creative license, other than that I simply set about beating up my mask. So here's the final product:

The spider was just added for good measure...  This now hangs on my wall along side my other voice changing helmet, and my cyber leader mask.  Something else I like is that I managed to beat it up but still maintain its workability.

Not quite Van Gogh...

My Dad is to blame for my love of Doctor Who for it was him who introduced it to me, we would watch the BBC series every week.  I remember more so that in November 1992 a new channel was launched on SkyTV.  'UK Gold' a station that was to show repeats of the 'classic' archive programming from both the BBC and ITV networks, and with that they began to air Doctor Who from the original 1963 William Hartnell episode 'The Unearthly Child'.

Anyway, back to the reason for this post. I wanted to share with you three paintings that I did for my Dad, firstly my Dads favorite DW bad guy was the Cybermen and so for his birthday I painted him this:

The following year for Fathers Day I painted him a Dalek:

The a couple of years ago my Dad went to Disney World in Florida and so as a surprise to him I painted the exploding TARDIS painting from the 2010 episode "The Pandorica Opens" and had it delivered to his hotel.
